• 2 × 3 ft 61 × 91 cm Entryway, bathroom, or beside the bed
• 2 × 6 ft runner 61 × 183 cm Hallway, galley kitchen, or foot of the bed
• 4 × 6 ft 122 × 183 cm Dining for four, under a coffee table, small bedroom
• 5 × 8 ft 152 × 244 cm Large living room, king bedroom
• 8 × 10 ft 244 × 305 cm Great room, statement floor
• 9 × 12 ft 274 × 366 cm Extra-large living, formal dining

Getting the placement right

• Living room — at minimum, the front legs of your sofa should rest on the rug. The rug should be at least as wide as the sofa.
• Bedroom — allow 18–24 in (45–60 cm) of rug on each side of the bed so your feet land on wool, not floor.
• Dining room — the rug needs to extend 24 in (60 cm) past every edge of the table so chairs stay on it when pulled out.
• Any room — leave 8–18 in (20–45 cm) of bare floor between the rug and the walls. A rug that runs wall to wall makes a room feel smaller.

Before you order: mark the size out on your floor with painter's tape and live with it for a day. It is the quickest way to be certain, and it costs nothing.
